Camera privacy controls

What does eufy Privacy Mode do?

On supported eufy cameras, Privacy Mode (also called Privacy Shutter in some app instructions) pauses recording and live streaming until you turn it off. Some models rotate the lens away as a visible cue. It is a temporary camera pause, not a privacy zone that masks one part of the image—and while it is on, the camera cannot provide normal surveillance coverage.

Scope: Menu names and behavior vary by camera model and app version. eufy describes this feature for supported devices; confirm the exact model before relying on it.

Choose the control that matches your goal

These controls affect different parts of the camera. A masked area, a paused camera, and a powered-off device are not interchangeable.

ControlWhat changesBest fitCoverage consequence
Privacy Mode / ShutterPauses recording and live view; supported models may turn the lens away.A temporary whole-camera pause, such as when people are home.Do not expect normal recording or live monitoring while enabled.
Privacy ZoneMasks a defined part of the image on supported models.Keeping a neighboring window or other fixed area out of view.Other visible areas may still be monitored; confirm masking in saved footage.
Camera On switchDisables the camera through its app setting on applicable models.Stopping camera operation using the available device control.Behavior and remote recovery depend on model and how it was switched off.
Physical power offRemoves operating power or manually powers down the unit.A physical shutdown when the model provides a safe method.Remote controls and recording are unavailable while it is off.

What to verify before scheduling it

Some eufy support guidance says Privacy Mode can be enabled manually or scheduled through a camera’s Security Mode. Availability is model-specific, so first confirm that the option appears for the camera you own. A schedule is useful only if its start and end match the times you actually want coverage paused.

  1. Check the model. Open the camera’s settings and confirm a Privacy Mode or Privacy Shutter option exists. Do not infer support from another camera in the same household.
  2. Pick the time window. If the app offers a schedule, record its days, start time, and end time. Check the active Security Mode as well as the camera’s own setting.
  3. Decide what must keep working. Privacy Mode pauses video functions. If you still need alerts or a view of the entryway, use an appropriate separate device or choose a different control.
  4. Plan the resume check. Identify who will turn it off or verify the scheduled end, especially after app, mode, or schedule changes.

Verify the change without a blind spot

Use a short, reversible check when someone is present and can restore coverage. Do not test by leaving a security-critical area unattended.

CheckRecordWhat it establishes
Before activationModel, current Security Mode, and whether live view and event recording work.A baseline for comparison.
Activate Privacy ModeApp label, lens position if applicable, and whether live view/recording pause.Whether the feature visibly engaged on this device.
Restore coverageWho disabled it or the schedule end time; confirm live view returns. That the camera can resume after the pause.
Review after a scheduleNext expected start/end and actual mode shown in the app.Whether the schedule behaved as configured on that occasion.

This is a setup verification for one device and occasion, not evidence that every model or schedule behaves identically. App updates, model support, or Security Mode changes can alter the available controls; recheck after changing them.
