Recording and troubleshooting
Why are my eufy camera clips too short? Settings to check
Short answer: open the camera's recording or working mode and check its clip length, retrigger interval, and “end clip early if motion stops” setting. Then widen the activity zone enough to cover the approach path. Eufy says supported battery devices can allow clips up to 120 seconds, but menu names and limits vary by model; a longer setting does not guarantee every clip will reach that length.
Check the configured clip length and the model's available recording modes.
Check whether “end clip early if motion stops” is enabled and whether motion leaves the activity zone.
Check detection sensitivity, zone coverage, and the retrigger interval.
Confirm the exact model and power type. Some wired devices do not support the same adjustable clip controls.
Before changing settings: save one example clip and note its duration, camera model, working mode, and whether motion was still inside the frame when recording stopped. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which control affected the next event.
Check these four controls in order
- Clip length. In the eufy Security app, open the device settings and find Power Manager or Working Mode, then Customize Recording or Clip Length. Eufy's adjustment guide lists up to 120 seconds for supported eufyCam, SoloCam, and some battery doorbell and floodlight devices. Wired doorbells and some other models do not offer the same control; check the current menu for your exact device.
- Early stop. If the camera ends a clip as soon as it decides motion has stopped, turn off “End clip early if the motion stops” for a controlled check. This can make clips longer but can also save more footage than you need.
- Retrigger interval. A shorter interval lets the camera detect a following event sooner. It can create more recordings and use more battery, so test it for the scene you need instead of choosing the shortest interval by default.
- Detection area and sensitivity. Increase sensitivity gradually and extend the activity zone to include the direction people approach from. A person crossing the edge of a narrow zone may be detected late or leave the monitored area before the clip finishes.
Use a repeatable driveway or doorway check
| Pass | What to observe | Write down |
|---|---|---|
| Walk toward the camera through the monitored path | When the alert begins and whether the first approach is visible. | Alert delay; clip start; full approach captured? |
| Continue moving after the alert | Whether motion is still inside the activity zone when the clip ends. | Configured length; actual length; early-stop setting? |
| Repeat after one change | Whether the changed control altered the result. | New setting and result; battery impact to monitor? |
This is a setup check, not a performance benchmark. One walk-through can reveal a configuration issue, but it cannot establish how reliably a camera will capture all events or how long its battery will last across different activity levels.
Why a 120-second setting may still produce a shorter clip
The selected clip length is a ceiling for supported modes, not a promise that the camera records continuously for that duration. Motion may stop, the subject may leave the detection area, a model may use a battery-saving mode, or a retrigger delay may separate consecutive events. Camera firmware and available controls also differ. If the setting appears correct but clips still end early, record the model, firmware/app version, selected mode, and a sample clip duration before contacting eufy support.
Balance coverage with battery use
Longer clips, higher sensitivity, and shorter intervals can increase recording activity on battery-powered cameras. Start with the setting that fixes the missing part of the event, then watch the battery trend over several days. If a fixed area needs a continuous archive, check whether your model supports continuous recording and the required power and storage; event-clip settings do not create 24/7 recording.
For storage choices and recording-mode limits, see the eufy storage and subscription guide. For motion boundaries, see activity zones vs. privacy zones.
Source note: model-dependent controls and troubleshooting steps were checked against eufy's official guides for adjusting recording length and clips that only capture the end of an event on 2026-09-25. This page adds a symptom-to-setting map and repeatable walk-through card; it does not present individual reports as general testing.
