eufy camera buying check

Do eufy cameras need HomeBase?

Short answer: some do, many do not. Older eufyCam kits such as eufyCam 2 pair through a HomeBase, while many SoloCams and Indoor Cams can record locally on the camera. A HomeBase can add shared storage or features for supported models, but compatibility varies by exact product number. Before buying, check the model’s pairing requirement, recording location, and the specific HomeBase feature you want—these are three separate questions.

Start with the camera’s exact product number

“Eufy camera” is not specific enough to answer a hub question. Find the product number on the box or product listing; for an installed device, eufy says it is available in the app under Device Settings → General → About Device. Use that number to check the current compatibility list and the camera’s own manual. Similar model names can have different connection or storage arrangements.

Many SoloCams, including S340Designed to operate without a HomeBase; recordings may be stored on the camera.Whether the exact version supports a base at all, and whether adding one changes storage or features.
Indoor Cam modelsMany are standalone Wi-Fi cameras with local microSD recording options.Card requirements, NAS support, and whether that model works with the HomeBase generation you own.
Doorbells and wired camerasStorage may be on the doorbell/camera, a chime, or a HomeBase depending on the model.Power variant (wired or battery), included chime/base, and the destination used for saved clips.

This is a family-level screening guide, not a complete compatibility list. Product generations and regional variants differ; use the current official entry for the product number before ordering.

Do not treat “works with HomeBase” as one yes/no feature

For HomeBase 3, eufy’s compatibility list separates storage compatibility from BionicMind, modes, and automation compatibility. A camera may support storage on the base without supporting every listed feature. The list also labels some models as under evaluation or not compatible. If you are buying the base for face recognition, automation, or a single storage pool, verify that exact column—not just a general “compatible” label.

Three-line pre-purchase check: (1) Camera product number and required pairing device; (2) where clips save by default and whether a card/base is separately needed; (3) the exact HomeBase feature and compatibility status you intend to use. If any line is unknown, pause the bundle decision until the model page or support list answers it.

Can you add a HomeBase later?

Sometimes, but do not assume a standalone camera can be converted to HomeBase storage or gain all base features later. Check the official compatibility entry for both the camera model and the HomeBase version. Also account for the practical setup: HomeBase 3 connects to the router by Ethernet, so the installation needs a suitable network port and a place for the base.
