How to Save eufy Camera Footage Before a Reset
Short answer: save a single event from the eufy app to your phone’s album. For recordings stored on a HomeBase 3, use its Video Archive feature to copy a selected period to a USB drive. Confirm the exported file plays before resetting, deleting events, or replacing storage. The USB archive instructions below apply to HomeBase 3; other cameras and HomeBase models may have different export paths.
Open Events, play the clip, and use Download to save it to the phone album. Then copy it to the intended long-term location.
Connect a USB drive to rear USB 1 and run Video Archive in the eufy app. The archive converts backup videos to MP4.
Do not assume Video Archive exports a full 24/7 timeline. Eufy’s privacy information says continuous recordings cannot be downloaded through its app; use the model’s playback controls and verify the available save method first.
Before resetting: make the copy first, play it from the destination, and check the date and duration. Eufy says deleting a video in the app also deletes it from device storage and cannot be undone.
Pick the route by what you need to preserve
| Need | Starting route | Check before you rely on it |
|---|---|---|
| One motion or doorbell event | Download the event from the app to the phone album. | Open the saved copy from the phone album, then transfer it to a second location if needed. |
| Several dates of recordings on HomeBase 3 | Use HomeBase 3 Video Archive with a USB drive in USB 1. | Confirm the USB format, selected dates, completed archive, and playable MP4 files. |
| A recording from a camera without HomeBase 3 | Use the event download or the model’s documented export option. | Check the exact camera, storage destination, and app version. HomeBase 3 USB directions do not apply automatically. |
| A continuous timeline | Use the camera’s playback screen to locate the needed interval and inspect its export controls. | Test a short interval before depending on the result; event archive and continuous playback may expose different export options. |
Download one event to your phone
- Open the eufy app’s Events tab and locate the recording by date and camera. Use the event filters if several devices or storage paths appear.
- Open the event and tap Download. Eufy’s app guide says this saves the video to the phone’s album.
- Open the saved item from the album, not just the Events screen. Check that the intended camera, timestamp, and full clip are present.
- If the file must survive a phone loss or reset, copy it to a separate computer or drive and verify that second copy too.
Menu names can shift with app versions. If the Download control is missing, verify the account has access to that recording and check whether the selected storage path and camera support the action.
Archive recordings from HomeBase 3 to USB
- Use a USB drive formatted as exFAT or FAT32. Eufy recommends exFAT for Video Archive.
- Insert the drive into USB 1 on the back of HomeBase 3. The second USB port is not the documented archive port.
- In the eufy app, open HomeBase 3 → Video Archive, select the archive date or period shown, and start Archive.
- Leave the drive connected until the archive finishes. Eufy warns not to unplug it during the process.
- Move the drive to a computer and play representative MP4 files. Check more than one timestamp if the archive covers multiple dates.
The archive is an export of footage held by HomeBase 3. A successful transfer does not prove that every camera, date, or recording mode was included. Check the selected range and files before changing the system.
Use this three-point preservation check
| Check | Record | Why it catches a miss |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Camera name and requested date/time | Prevents keeping the right day from the wrong camera. |
| Copy | Phone album or USB path and file count | Distinguishes a visible event in the app from a completed export. |
| Playback | File opens, timestamp is plausible, and duration covers the needed moment | Finds incomplete, wrong-period, or unusable copies before the source changes. |
Keep this check simple: one person can call out the requested camera and date while another confirms the exported file. If only one person is doing the work, write the request down first and tick each item after playback.
Do not delete the source until the copy is checked
Eufy’s app instructions state that deleting an event also deletes its device-storage copy and that deleted videos cannot be restored. A download or USB archive is only useful after it exists outside the recording device and opens correctly. Keep the original event until the destination copy passes the identity and playback checks.
If you are resetting a device, first save the recordings you need, confirm the copy, then follow the reset procedure for that exact model. This guide does not assume that removing a camera from an account, formatting a card, or resetting every model has the same effect on stored files.
Source note: Export steps and limits were checked against eufy’s official app download and delete guide, HomeBase 3 Video Archive instructions, and recording access FAQ on 2026-10-19. App labels and model support can change. This page adds an export-route matrix and copy verification card; it does not report a multi-model test or treat an individual user report as general behavior.
