eufy Camera Not Detecting an SD Card? Check These Steps

If your eufy camera does not detect a microSD card, first confirm that this exact model accepts a card and check its supported capacity and speed class. Then inspect the card status in the eufy app. Do not format or remove a card that may hold footage you need: formatting can erase data, and eufy says recordings on supported cards are encrypted.

Start with the model, not the card slot

Not every eufy camera stores recordings on a removable card. Some models use built-in storage, a HomeBase, or another supported storage option. Find the exact model name in the app or on the device label, then check that model’s storage page. The older eufy camera support list, for example, names specific Indoor Cam, Outdoor Cam, battery doorbell, and HomeBase E products; it does not establish compatibility for every newer camera.

For models covered by eufy’s microSD guidance, the listed ceiling is 128 GB and the recommendation is a quality Class 10 card. That ceiling is not universal: newer models may have their own capacity and media requirements. Follow the page for your model rather than buying a card from a brand-only recommendation.

Check the card in a safe order

  1. Record the model and current status. In Camera Settings, open Storage if that menu exists. Note whether the app says no card, unformatted, abnormal, or ready. Menu wording varies by model and app release.
  2. Compare the card specification. Check the exact capacity and speed marking printed on the card against the model-specific eufy support page. A card that fits physically can still fall outside the camera’s supported specification.
  3. Check seating with power handled safely. Follow the camera’s manual for powering down and inserting or reseating its card. Do not force the tray or slot. If the model has no user-accessible card slot, stop and use its designated storage path.
  4. Read the app’s storage status again. If the card appears, follow the in-app initialization prompt only after deciding that its contents can be erased. eufy’s setup instructions say supported cards must be formatted in the eufy app before use.
  5. Test with a new event. Trigger a safe, ordinary event and check that a new recording appears. A detected card alone does not prove the active security mode is set to record.

Before formatting or replacing it

Formatting is an initialization step, not a data-recovery step. If the card may contain important recordings, export those clips through the app before formatting or replacing the card. eufy’s support material says its stored footage is encrypted, so a computer may not display the recordings as ordinary video files. A computer’s inability to browse the card is not, by itself, proof that the camera failed to record.

Keep a short service note so that card swaps are traceable: camera model, card capacity and class, exact app status, whether the app formatted it, and whether a fresh test clip appeared. Change one variable at a time. If the camera still rejects a card that matches its current model requirements, contact eufy support with that note rather than repeatedly formatting the same card.
